Viper is an Arcobaleno, the holder of the Indigo Arcobaleno Pacifier. Also known as Esper Mammon, they work for the Varia, the independent assassination squad of the Vongola Famiglia. As the Varia's best spell-caster, Viper can construct powerful illusions as well as being able to locate any person by sneezing into a piece of paper. Their animal partner is Fantasma, resting on top of their head.

Gender

Viper's gender was never revealed in any form of Katekyo Hitman Reborn! media. Gender-neutral pronouns are always used to describe them. In VIZ translations, their gender continues to remain as male, though VIZ itself is not "official" and has become infamous for making many errors and not adhering to the original text when translating. In the stage play, Viper is portrayed by an actress, Chihiro Kai.

Appearance

Viper has fair skin, purple hair, and purple upside-down triangle markings on the cheeks. They wear a black cloak with white stripes on the hood that always cover their eyes. Viper wears their Varia uniform over the cloak. The Arcobaleno Pacifier is on a thick chain around their neck. The pacifier was previously covered by Mammon Chains, and now concealed by the Auto Mammon Chain Ring Cover. They wear their Varia uniform over the cloak.

Personality

As the representative of Greed, Viper is materialistic, and is generally apathetic. With some exceptions, they only work when money is involved, and tend to charge very high prices for their services. On rare occasions, Viper works for free only if the situation is dire or out of their duties as an Arcobaleno.

Out of all Arcobaleno, Viper is the most obsessed in breaking the curse. Breaking the Arcobaleno curse elicited more emotions from Viper, expressing their desire and determination to break the curse and to continue living.

Powers and abilities

Viper is a first-class psychic, a person able to perform supernatural feats, such as telepathy and flight, with their mind.

Viper also uses powerful first-class illusions, powered by their psychic ability, the Indigo Arcobaleno Pacifier, and Mist Flames. Their most common illusions are clones of themselves and the illusion of tentacles.

Techniques

• Viper Mirage: Viper used this to surround Namimori with a series of mirages.
• Viper Mirage R: It sets a rule on the target that when broken, the target is instantly damaged with a multitude of deep cuts.
• Uroboros: Declared by Viper to be their strongest illusion, Viper unleashes multiple large blind eel-like creatures with large mouths and sharp teeth.
• Thoughtography: Viper uses this ability to locate any person. By sneezing into a piece of paper, the spit or mucus that sticks to the paper shows a map leading to the desired person.

Equipment

Viper carries a roll of white paper that they use for Thoughtography. They also use it to create illusions to attack their opponents.

• Indigo Arcobaleno Pacifier: Held by Viper after becoming an Arcobaleno, it glows when near another holder.
• Mammon Chain: Created by Viper, it prevents the detection any object that can emit Dying Will Flames.
• Mist Starfish: It was one of the first Box Weapons that were created and appeared in the past. When used, many spinning Starfish that emit Mist-Flames come out of it. Those that break are fused together and create a single and bigger Starfish.

• "Mammon" is a term used to describe material wealth or greed, most often personified as a deity.
• Viperidae, or Viper, is a family of venomous snakes.
• Their favorite word is 'greed'.
• Their favorite food is 5-yen chocolate, while their favorite drink is lemonade.^[1]
• Their hobby is checking their deposit amount.^[1]
• They like money and perfume incense.^[2]
• They dislike Bel's meddling, spicy food, and carbonated juice.^[2]
• Viper was disguised as Monta Hariyama during the Arcobaleno Trials Arc. The name "Monta" is written with the kanji for "family crest" (紋(もん)) and "plump, thick" (太(た)), while "Hariyama" means "pincushion" (針山(はりやま)).
• Viper has a character song: Maboroshi no Arcobaleno.
• In the official English translation, Reborn and Colonnello said that their Arcobaleno Pacifier had a "sunny glow."
• Viper and Belphegor once borrowed one of Levi's parabolas when the weather was rainy as they mistook them as umbrellas, but ended up being struck by lightning.^[3]
• In Haru's Haru Haru Interview: Dangerous, it's revealed that like Fon, Viper cannot eat Mapo tofu since becoming an Arcobaleno because it was spicy, making them choke and tear up.
